Technical tour

As the IAHR2020 Congress dates were changed, post-congress tours and technical tour have to be redefined mostly due to the change of the season. If the new possibilities are to be offered, those will be published here and we will notify all our registrants separately.

A technical boat trip along the Vistula River in Warsaw

This water cruise will give you a chance to see an important part of Warsaw which is a Vistula River. The city is located on the major Polish river with a very interesting history and challenging hydrological problems. The river training works from 19-th century created a so-called “Warsaw corset” with a very narrow channel. There is a challenge how to combine the hydrotechnical solutions of boulevards, water intake structures with Nature 2000 principles of environmental protection. The trip will show the new project of Warsaw boulevards with solutions lowering flood risk, unique water intake well (so-called “Fat Cathrin”), natural vegetation on the right bank and the problem of flood conveyance. The clean and well-maintained beaches and boulevards created a new waterfront of the city sometimes informally called “District of the Vistula”. During the cruise, you will see Warsaw from the river perspective, see the beautiful panorama of the Old Town and Powiśle district as well as hydrotechnical constructions of the city infrastructure.
